Lucas completed a PhD in Philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires (2019). In his dissertation, he analysed how Abū Yaʿqūb al-Sijistānī, in the Kitāb al-Yanābīʿ, understood, from a political perspective, several metaphysical concepts developed in the Arabic versions of Plotinus, in particular, those of mediation, participation and knowledge. His dissertation was supervised by Claudia D’Amico (UBA) and evaluated by Maribel Fierro (CSIC), Isabel Toral (Freie Universität Berlin) and Francisco Bertelloni (UBA). Before that, he finished a Licentiate degree in Philosophy, also at the University of Buenos Aires, with a thesis on Ibn Gabirol’s reception of the Arabic translations of Plotinus (2014).
Throughout his PhD, Lucas carried out multiple research periods in different academic centers: the Instituto de Lenguas y Culturas del Mediterráneo of the CCHS-CSIC; the Seminar für Arabistik/Islamwissenschaft of the Universität Göttingen; the Munich School of Ancient Philosophy at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München; the École des hautes études hispaniques et ibériques of the Casa de Velázquez; and the Cordoba Near Eastern Research Unit at the Universidad de Córdoba.
He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Instituto de Filosofía of the Universidad de Buenos Aires with a scholarship from the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET) of Argentina (2019-2021). He is a lecturer on Medieval Islamic Philosophy at the MA in Medieval Studies and the doctoral programmes in Philosophy and History of the Universidad de Buenos Aires. He is a member of the Directive Council of the Society for Medieval Philosophy (SOFIME).
Lucas also holds an MA in International Affairs (Universidad Nacional de La Plata, 2017), with a thesis on contemporary Salafī thought, and an MBA (IAE Business School, 2019). Last but not least, he is actively involved in interreligious dialogue and cooperation.
